Former Horticulture Minister and President of the Kullu District Cooperative Union, Satya Prakash Thakur, emphasised the urgent need for the state government to reinstate education funds for district cooperative unions during a press conference held at Kullu today..

Thakur highlighted that the District Cooperative Union plays a crucial role in providing cooperative education through various training programs at the local level. However, these efforts have been severely hampered due to the suspension of education funds by the state government and concerned departments.

“In the past, the state government allocated funds to support our educational initiatives. Unfortunately, this support has been abruptly withdrawn, jeopardizing our ongoing training programs,” Thakur stated, expressing concern over the potential disruption in cooperative education activities at the district level.

During a recent meeting of the District Cooperative Union’s Board of Directors, Thakur revealed that if the state government fails to restore the education fund despite repeated appeals, legal action may be pursued. “We are prepared to approach the HP High Court if necessary, in order to ensure the continuity of our educational initiatives,” he asserted, underscoring the united stance of all district cooperative unions across the state.

Thakur also announced that the union’s general session is scheduled for June 25th, where significant decisions pertaining to their future course of action will be deliberated upon. Additionally, plans for district-level meetings and a training camp slated for the first week of July were disclosed during the press conference.

Present alongside Thakur were District Vice President Dola Singh Mahant, Baldev Thakur, and other members of the Board of Directors, who echoed his concerns regarding the critical need to secure funding for cooperative education.

The press conference concluded with a resolute call to the state government to promptly release the education funds, ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of cooperative education efforts at the grassroots level across districts.
