Italy Approves Landmark Energy Decree to Cut Bills and Support Families and Businesses.
Rome:
In a decisive move aimed at tackling rising energy costs, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the approval of a major decree focused on reducing utility bills and strengthening economic support for households and businesses across the country.
Describing the measure as both “concrete and courageous,” Meloni emphasized that the decree introduces provisions designed to deliver direct financial relief. A key feature includes an expanded social bonus of up to €315, aimed at supporting families facing financial hardship. The initiative seeks to ease the burden of energy expenses at a time when many households continue to struggle with high living costs.
In addition to assisting families, the decree also targets the business sector by reducing general system charges on energy bills for more than four million companies. This step is expected to improve liquidity for businesses and enhance competitiveness, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Prime Minister further stated that the decree lays the groundwork for structurally lowering energy costs in the long term, signaling a broader strategy to stabilize the energy market and protect consumers.
Reaffirming her government’s commitment, Meloni said the administration will continue working to defend citizens and support those who contribute to Italy’s economic productivity.
