The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced and addressed the convocation ceremony of Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat today, emphasizing the growing importance of advanced security education in an increasingly complex global landscape.

In her address, the President underlined that the nature of security threats has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years. She noted that emerging challenges such as cyber crime, phishing attacks, and so-called “digital arrests” have become significant concerns, requiring a new generation of highly skilled professionals. She stressed that institutions like Rashtriya Raksha University play a crucial role in preparing technically proficient police officers, forensic experts, and strategic thinkers capable of addressing these modern threats and ensuring justice.

Highlighting the expanding scope of strategic studies, President Murmu said that the field now goes beyond traditional concepts of war and peace to include defence manufacturing, emerging technologies, supply chains, and industrial self-reliance. She emphasized the importance of building stronger linkages between academic institutions and defence-related industries to achieve these goals.

The President also pointed out the growing role of Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security in shaping global dynamics. She noted that India, through initiatives such as the India AI Mission and the AI Impact Summit 2026, has emerged as a key voice in global AI governance. The wide international support for the New Delhi Declaration adopted at the summit reflects India’s leadership in the field.

Addressing internal security, she described cyber security as a cornerstone of financial stability and digital trust. She highlighted India’s institutional mechanisms, including the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, as effective tools benefiting citizens.

President Murmu further emphasized that national strength depends not only on the bravery of security forces but also on technological advancement and self-reliance in defence production. She said the government is committed to strengthening indigenous capabilities and reducing dependence on imports in the defence sector.

Expressing confidence in the future of the university, she said that Rashtriya Raksha University is poised to emerge as a global centre of excellence in security education. She added that its graduates will play a vital role in building a secure, just, and self-reliant India.
