Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized the North-East’s pivotal role in India’s development during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Meghalaya Skill and Innovation Hub in Shillong yesterday. He asserted that the region significantly contributes to the nation’s unity, economic progress, and cultural richness.

Dhankhar praised the government’s Look East and Act East policies for driving exponential growth in communication, connectivity, and infrastructure, particularly in airports. He expressed concern over the spread of misinformation on public platforms, urging the need for informed narratives and accountability among citizens.

Highlighting the importance of skills development, the Vice-President stated that skilling is essential for tapping into individual talents and driving qualitative progress. He noted the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Skill Development and the allocation of Rs. 60,000 crores for internships aimed at 5 lakh young individuals over the next five years.

Reflecting on his experiences in Meghalaya, he remarked, “If there is heaven it is in India, if there is heavenly spirit, it is in Meghalaya,” and stressed the potential of tourism as a key economic driver for the state.

The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Meghalaya’s Governor, Chief Minister, and other officials, underlining a collective commitment to harnessing the North-East’s potential for national growth.
