DRDO and Indian Navy Successfully Test Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile.
Odisha:
The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted a flight test of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. The test, executed on September 12, 2024, at approximately 1500 hours, utilized a land-based vertical launcher to engage a high-speed aerial target flying at low altitude.
The VL-SRSAM demonstrated its effectiveness by successfully tracking and neutralizing the target. The test aimed to validate critical components of the missile system, including the Proximity Fuse and Seeker, with performance monitored through various tracking and telemetry systems.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the achievement, highlighting it as a testament to the system’s reliability and effectiveness. Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Chairman of DRDO, echoed this sentiment, noting that the successful test will significantly boost the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities and act as a substantial force multiplier.
