At the outset, both leaders reaffirmed the strength of the longstanding relationship between the United Kingdom and Netherlands. They highlighted cooperation across key sectors including energy security, migration, economic growth, and investment, describing their nations as enduring partners committed to deepening collaboration.
Discussions then turned to the evolving situation in the Middle East. The leaders exchanged updates on recent diplomatic engagements, including Prime Minister Starmer’s visit to Gulf nations and Prime Minister Jetten’s meetings in Washington. Both emphasized the importance of the upcoming summit on the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a crucial opportunity to advance coordinated diplomatic, military, and economic efforts amid rising regional tensions.
Expressing concern over instability in Lebanon, the two leaders stressed the urgent need for de-escalation. On the issue of Ukraine, Starmer thanked the Netherlands for its continued support and acknowledged Ukraine’s recent momentum on the battlefield.
