Netanyahu Claims ‘Monumental Achievements’ in Northern Front, Signals Continued Action Against Hezbollah.

Jerusalem:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday outlined what he described as “monumental achievements” in addressing security threats along Israel’s northern border, while acknowledging that operations against Hezbollah are not yet complete.

Speaking about the situation in northern Israel, Netanyahu said the country had faced two major threats emanating from Lebanon—a “near threat” involving the infiltration of militants and anti-tank attacks on border communities, and a “distant threat” posed by a large stockpile of missiles and rockets built over years under Hezbollah’s leadership, including its longtime chief Hassan Nasrallah.

According to the Prime Minister, Israel has neutralized both threats through sustained military operations. He stated that Israeli forces have established a deep security buffer zone along the entire northern frontier, stretching from Lebanon to Mount Hermon, across the Golan Heights, and down to the Yarmouk River. This, he said, has effectively prevented cross-border infiltration and direct attacks on Israeli communities.

Netanyahu added that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) remain deployed along what he referred to as the “Yellow Line,” maintaining vigilance against any renewed threats. On the longer-range danger, he claimed that approximately 90 percent of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket stockpiles have been destroyed, significantly weakening the group’s operational capabilities. He also asserted that thousands of militants had been eliminated and described Hezbollah as “a shadow of its former self.”

Despite these claims, Netanyahu cautioned that the mission is ongoing, citing remaining concerns over rockets and drone capabilities. He emphasized that the broader objective remains the complete dismantling of Hezbollah, a goal he said would require time, persistence, and careful diplomatic strategy.

The Prime Minister also revealed that Israel has agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon, following discussions with Donald Trump, in an effort to create space for a combined political and military resolution involving the Lebanese government. He noted that, for the first time in 43 years, Israeli and Lebanese representatives are engaged in direct dialogue, calling it a significant step toward potential long-term stability.

Balancing a message of strength with diplomacy, Netanyahu said Israel remains committed to restoring security for residents in the north while keeping the door open for peace. “One of our hands holds a weapon; our other hand is extended in peace,” he stated, adding that Israel will continue its efforts until full security is achieved.
