The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer held talks this afternoon with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, focusing on military support, energy security, and long-term peace efforts.
The meeting comes amid continued conflict following Russia’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine. The British Prime Minister praised the resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people, commending their “remarkable courage and strength” in the face of sustained attacks.
Battlefield Updates and Defence Cooperation
During the discussions, President Zelenskyy provided an update on developments along the frontline, with both leaders noting Ukraine’s continued momentum in key operational areas.
The two leaders agreed on the need to significantly expand defence industrial cooperation between Ukraine and European partners. This includes scaling up weapons production, strengthening supply chains, and ensuring sustained military assistance “for as long as it takes” to defend Ukrainian sovereignty.
Energy Security Ahead of Winter
A major focus of the talks was Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has repeatedly been targeted during the conflict. Both leaders emphasized the urgency of preparing for the upcoming winter season and reinforcing critical systems to improve resilience against further attacks.
The discussions highlighted concerns over Russia’s continued strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure, which have caused widespread disruption across Ukraine.
Peace Efforts and Sanctions Strategy
On diplomatic efforts, the leaders discussed Ukraine’s ongoing initiatives to secure a durable and just peace settlement.
