Kerela:
A special holistic wellness programme focusing on women’s health and menopause management through yoga and Ayurveda was organized in Kottayam, Kerala, as part of the nationwide 32-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga 2026.
The event, titled “Yoga for Menopause – A Holistic Wellness Module,” was jointly organised by Young Women’s Christian Association Kalathipady in association with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush.
Held in Kottayam, the programme highlighted the importance of integrating traditional Indian wellness systems such as yoga and Ayurveda into women’s healthcare and lifestyle practices. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from yoga practitioners, healthcare experts, wellness enthusiasts, and members of the local community.
Focus on Menopause Wellness
The programme centered on menopause wellness, emphasizing that menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life marked by hormonal, emotional, and metabolic changes. Experts at the event explained how yoga can help women navigate this phase by improving physical comfort, emotional balance, sleep quality, stress management, and overall well-being.

Thematic sessions explored the integration of Ayurvedic principles, classical yogic practices, pranayama, relaxation methods, and mindfulness-based techniques for supporting women during menopause.
Participants were introduced to several gentle yoga postures considered beneficial for menopause wellness, including Tadasana, Baddha Konasana, Balasana, Setu Bandhasana, Viparita Karani, and Shavasana.
The programme also featured breathing techniques such as Nadi Shodhana and Bhramari pranayama, which are known to support nervous system balance, mental calmness, and emotional stability.
Ayurveda and Holistic Healing
Speakers at the programme discussed Ayurvedic perspectives on menopause, particularly concepts related to Vata imbalance and dhatu kshaya, highlighting the importance of supportive diets, healthy lifestyle practices, and holistic self-care.
The event underscored the growing role of yoga and Ayurveda as preventive, promotive, and therapeutic tools in women’s healthcare and community wellness programmes.
Distinguished Guests Attend Programme
The programme was formally inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy. Several dignitaries and experts associated with the YWCA of India, CMS College, and the Kottayam municipal administration also attended the event.
Organisers stated that the initiative aligns with India’s broader vision of promoting traditional wellness systems and integrating yoga into everyday life for physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
The programme forms part of a series of events being conducted across the country ahead of International Day of Yoga 2026, aimed at raising awareness about the health benefits of yoga and encouraging wider public participation in wellness-oriented lifestyle practices.
