In a significant diplomatic conversation held on May 20, 2026, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reaffirmed Britain’s unwavering support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

During the call, the Prime Minister emphasized that the United Kingdom remains fully committed to standing alongside Ukraine and will continue taking strong measures to weaken Russia’s military and economic capabilities. He stated that the UK would do “everything possible” to debilitate and degrade Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war machine.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the latest package of sanctions announced by the UK government aimed at increasing pressure on Russia’s economy. According to the British leadership, these measures are intended to reduce Russia’s revenues and limit its ability to sustain military operations. He noted that due to the UK’s actions so far, there will be less Russian oil available on the global market, making Russia economically weaker as a consequence.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining international pressure on Russia and continuing coordinated efforts with allies to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and security. The conversation reflected the close and growing partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine, which has strengthened significantly since the beginning of the war.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to the resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people, praising their determination in the face of ongoing Russian aggression. President Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for Britain’s continued military, economic, and diplomatic support during this challenging period.

The leaders also discussed the need for sustained global cooperation to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region. They welcomed the strength of UK-Ukraine relations and agreed to remain in close contact in the coming weeks as international efforts to support Ukraine continue.
