Italy PM Giorgia Meloni Condemns Violence in Bologna, Calls for Full Probe into Abderrahim Fakir’s Death.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has strongly condemned the violent unrest that erupted in Bologna following the death of Abderrahim Fakir, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident while warning that attacks on law enforcement cannot be justified under any circumstances.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Meloni said the death of Fakir must be investigated “to the fullest extent of the law,” stressing that authorities must establish the truth without prejudice or preferential treatment for anyone involved.
“The truth must be thoroughly investigated, without prejudice and without discounts for anyone,” the Prime Minister said, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability if any wrongdoing is established.
At the same time, Meloni sharply criticized the violence that followed the incident, saying those responsible had exploited the tragedy to fuel disorder rather than seek justice.
“Nothing can justify violence against the Law Enforcement,” she said. “Those who chose to use this incident as a pretext to set the city on fire, attack officers and sow violence, putting the safety of completely unrelated citizens at risk, were not seeking the truth—they were seeking confrontation.”
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over what she described as growing hostility toward Italy’s police and security forces, warning that encouraging hatred or delegitimization of an entire state institution is deeply irresponsible.
“Fostering an atmosphere of hatred and delegitimization towards an entire State Body is an act of grave irresponsibility,” Meloni stated. “Turning thousands of women and men into targets means hitting those who every day serve Italy with professionalism, sacrifice and courage.”
Her remarks come amid heightened tensions following Fakir’s death and the subsequent clashes in Bologna, where demonstrations escalated into violence, resulting in attacks on law enforcement personnel and damage to public property.
The Italian government has reiterated that while every allegation surrounding Fakir’s death will be examined impartially, those responsible for violence and attacks against police officers will also be held accountable under the law.
Authorities continue to investigate both the circumstances of Fakir’s death and the unrest that followed, as the government seeks to restore calm while ensuring that justice is served.
