Dr. Ananya Sharma, daughter of retired Professor Prakash Sharma of the Department of Commerce, Vallabh Government College, Mandi, has brought immense pride to her family, the college, and the entire Mandi region by earning a commission as a Captain and Medical Officer in the Army Medical Corps (AMC) of the Indian Army through her talent, hard work, discipline, and unwavering dedication.

On 6 August 2026, at a ceremony held at Military Hospital, Ambala, Dr. Ananya Sharma was formally conferred the rank of Captain by her father, retired Professor Prakash Sharma, along with a senior military officer. She also formally joined her duties at Military Hospital, Ambala, on the same day.

Dr. Ananya Sharma completed her schooling at DAV Centenary Public School, Mandi, where she passed her Class XII examination in the Medical stream. Thereafter, she qualified for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and secured admission to Dr. Y. S. Parmar Medical College, Nahan, where she pursued her MBBS from 2018 to 2024 and successfully completed her medical education. Subsequently, she successfully cleared the selection process and interview conducted at R. R. Hospital, New Delhi, for induction into the Indian Army and was selected as a Medical Officer in the Army Medical Corps.

A Father’s Sacrifice: Empowering His Daughters Against All Odds

The success story of Dr. Ananya Sharma is not merely an account of her individual achievement; it is also an inspiring testament to the sacrifice, perseverance, and dedication of her father, Professor Prakash Sharma.

Professor Prakash Sharma’s wife, Late Assistant Professor Sonia Sharma, passed away tragically in a road accident in June 2016. At the time of her untimely demise, she was serving as an Assistant Professor in the B.Ed. Department of Vallabh Government College, Mandi. Their two daughters were still young.

Following the untimely demise of his wife, Professor Prakash Sharma shouldered the entire responsibility of raising and educating his two daughters. Putting aside his own personal comforts and priorities, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to securing a bright future for his daughters. He ensured not only that they received quality higher education but also that they grew into self-reliant, disciplined, confident, and capable individuals, empowered to pursue and achieve their dreams.

Through her hard work, determination, discipline, and commitment, his elder daughter, Captain Dr. Ananya Sharma, has now earned a commission as a Medical Officer in the Army Medical Corps of the Indian Army, thereby giving meaningful expression to her father’s years of sacrifice and dedication.

His younger daughter, Bhavishya Sharma, completed her graduation from M.C. DAV College, Chandigarh, and has currently applied for postgraduate studies in Psychology at Panjab University.
