New Delhi:

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation to develop an indigenous digital secure communication system for airborne applications.

The Software Development Institute (SDI) of the Indian Air Force signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with IIT Madras and IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation for the joint design and development of the advanced communication system.

The agreement was signed by Air Vice Marshal Sarabjit Singh, Commandant of SDI, and Dr MJ Shankar Raman, CEO of IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, in the presence of Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras.

Focus on Advanced Communication and Networking Technologies

Under the collaboration, the three institutions will work together on the development of advanced algorithms for communication systems and networking technologies.

The proposed indigenous system is aimed at strengthening secure digital communication capabilities for airborne applications, which are essential for the operational requirements of the Indian Air Force.

The partnership will combine the technical expertise and research capabilities of IIT Madras and IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation with the operational requirements and development capabilities of the IAF’s Software Development Institute.

Move Towards Self-Reliance in Defence Technology

The initiative is expected to reduce the Indian Air Force’s dependence on imported communication systems and promote the development of advanced defence technologies within the country.

The indigenous development of secure communication solutions is also expected to contribute to improving the operational efficiency of the IAF.

The collaboration marks another step towards strengthening India’s defence research and development ecosystem and advancing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat through indigenous technological capabilities.
