Himachal to Receive Up to Rs. 20,000 Crore Over 20 Years in BBMB Arrears Case: CM Sukhu.

Chief Minister terms Supreme Court-related development a historic victory for state’s financial rights; says additional revenue will accelerate development and strengthen Himachal’s economy.

Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has described Himachal Pradesh’s success in the Supreme Court over the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) arrears and the state’s financial rights as a historic victory for the people of the state.

60 Crore Units of Electricity Annually for 20 Years

Under the arrangement, Himachal Pradesh will receive 60 crore units of electricity annually for the next 20 years, potentially generating revenue ranging from Rs. 10,000 crore to Rs. 20,000 crore during this period. The Chief Minister said the achievement was the result of the state government’s strong determination, sustained efforts and continuous legal battle to secure Himachal’s rightful dues.

Potential Annual Revenue of Rs. 1,000 Crore

Sukhu said the decision could generate additional annual revenue of up to Rs. 1,000 crore, depending on the electricity tariff. If the rate is fixed at Rs. 13 to Rs. 14 per unit, the state’s financial gains would be substantially higher. Even at a rate of Rs. 6 per unit, Himachal Pradesh would receive at least Rs. 500 crore annually, he added.

He said the additional revenue would significantly strengthen the state’s financial position and accelerate development activities.

Fourth Major Success in Safeguarding State’s Rights

The Chief Minister termed the BBMB development the fourth major success of the present state government in safeguarding Himachal Pradesh’s interests. He said the government had earlier successfully pursued matters concerning Wildflower Hall, JSW and the Kishau Dam.

Sukhu reiterated that the state government would continue its efforts to protect Himachal Pradesh’s rights and resources. Issues such as the Shanan Power Project and Water Cess are also being strongly pursued to ensure that the state receives its legitimate share.

Revenue to Boost Education, Healthcare and Infrastructure

Congratulating nearly 75 lakh people and 24 lakh families of Himachal Pradesh on the achievement, he said protecting the state’s natural resources and securing its rightful share had remained among the government’s top priorities.

Sukhu said the additional funds would be utilised to improve education and healthcare facilities, strengthen roads and other infrastructure, create employment opportunities for young people and ensure timely payment of financial benefits to government employees.

Government Committed to Self-Reliant Himachal

The Chief Minister said the people had entrusted him with the responsibility of protecting the state’s resources and wealth for five years, and he was fulfilling this responsibility with honesty, dedication and commitment.

Expressing confidence in the state’s future, Sukhu said continued efforts to secure the rightful value of Himachal Pradesh’s natural resources would help transform the state into the country’s most prosperous and happiest state by 2032.
