BBMB Verdict a Historic Victory for Himachal’s Rights, Says Vikramaditya Singh.
PWD Minister credits Virbhadra Singh’s initiative in 1996 and Sukhu government’s legal efforts; says state will continue fighting for Chandigarh share and justice for dam oustees.
Shimla:
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has termed the Supreme Court’s decision in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) arrears case a historic victory for Himachal Pradesh, describing it as a landmark achievement in the state’s long struggle for its rightful financial and power-related entitlements.
Recalling the history of the legal battle, Singh said the struggle began in 1996 under the leadership of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, whose vision and determination laid the foundation for securing Himachal’s rights. He also referred to the political support extended at that time by former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
He said that after nearly three decades of sustained efforts, the state had finally secured a favourable decision in 2026 under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the present Congress government.
Financial and Power Benefits
Highlighting the benefits of the decision, Vikramaditya Singh said Himachal Pradesh would receive an annual revenue of Rs 400 crore. Additionally, the state would be provided 11,973 million units (MUs) of electricity over the next 20 years.

He described the verdict as more than a legal victory, saying it represented the triumph of Himachal’s self-respect, natural resources and constitutional rights.
Fight for Other Pending Issues
The minister said the struggle for the state’s rights was far from over. He asserted that the government would continue pursuing Himachal’s rightful share in Chandigarh and raise the issues concerning rehabilitation and justice for families displaced by the Pong and Ranjit Sagar dams.
Singh said the state would continue to raise these matters before every appropriate forum until Himachal Pradesh secured its legitimate rights.
