New Delhi:

The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has concluded its inaugural Advanced Leadership Development Programme on Public Policy and Good Governance, designed for senior civil servants from Latin America and the Caribbean. The two-week program, held from September 2 to 13, 2024, brought together 22 participants from 10 countries, including Argentina, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts & Nevis, and Suriname.

During the closing ceremony, V. Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and Director General of NCGG, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the value of bilateral relations between India and the participating nations. He highlighted India’s governance strategies, such as the “Maximum Governance, Minimum Government” approach, Digital India initiatives, and sustainability models. Srinivas suggested these practices could be adapted to address the unique governance challenges faced by the participants’ home countries.

The valedictory session featured presentations from participants, who were organized into four groups. Each group analyzed key governance topics including Ethics and Accountability in Leadership, Smart Cities and Urban Governance, Improving Public Service Delivery, and Women-Centric Governance. The presentations reflected both the participants’ insights into their own governance contexts and their learnings from India’s policies.

The program included interactive sessions and field visits to prominent institutions. Participants explored the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy for insights on environmental governance, the Cyber Security Cell for digital security practices, the National Institute of Solar Energy and the International Solar Alliance for renewable energy, and the Taj Mahal to experience India’s cultural heritage.

The program was overseen by Course Coordinator Dr. Himanshi Rastogi, Associate Course Coordinator Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Consultant Dr. Zaid Fakhar, Young Professional Megha Tomar, Programme Assistant Sanjay Dutt Pant, and Training Assistant Brijesh Bisht.
