Commemorative Postage Stamp Unveiled to Mark 75 Years of Hindi as Official Language.

On Hindi Diwas, September 14, 2024, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah unveiled a commemorative postage stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of Hindi being adopted as the official language of the Union of India. This event, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of Rajbhasha, commemorating the historic decision by the Constituent Assembly on September 14, 1949, which designated Hindi in the Devanagari script as the official language.

The Department of Official Language, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been pivotal in promoting the use of Hindi in official matters since its establishment in 1975. The commemorative stamp honors Hindi’s role in shaping India’s administrative and cultural landscape over the past 75 years.

Union Minister of Communications and Development of Northern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia remarked, “Today, on this historic occasion of Hindi completing 75 years as India’s official language, Amit Shah has released a commemorative postage stamp. The stamp celebrates Hindi’s contribution to India’s culture and history and highlights its role in building a New and Viksit Bharat. It will serve as a reminder of Hindi’s importance in fostering unity and peace.”

The commemorative postage stamp issued by the Department of Posts pays tribute to Hindi’s enduring role in uniting the country and serving its diverse linguistic communities.
