India’s Road Transport Ministry Reviews Ethanol and Flex Fuel Preparedness with Automobile Industry.
New Delhi:
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, convened a review meeting today with representatives from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) to assess the readiness of the automobile industry for the adoption of ethanol and flex fuels.
During the meeting held at Transport Bhawan, discussions centered on the imminent launch of ethanol-powered vehicles and the industry’s strategies for integrating these biofuels into the market. Minister Gadkari emphasized the environmental and economic benefits of transitioning from fossil fuels to biofuels, highlighting its potential to enhance India’s self-reliance, reduce pollution, cut down on annual fossil fuel imports, and offer consumers more affordable fuel options.
Gadkari pointed to Brazil as a successful model, where the widespread adoption of flex fuels and biofuels has transformed the transportation sector. He urged SIAM members to develop strategies to boost public acceptance of these alternative fuels.
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra, and senior officials from the Ministry also participated in the discussions, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable fuel alternatives in India’s automobile industry.
