New Delhi:
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, addressed the 2023 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers today in New Delhi, urging them to commit to creating a terror-free and drug-free India by 2047, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat.
During the interaction, attended by key dignitaries including the Union Home Secretary and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Shah highlighted the significant responsibilities the new batch of officers would bear compared to their predecessors. He stressed that their actions will determine the future of policing in the country.
Shah noted the successful reduction of violence in Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas by 70%, asserting that Indian security agencies now have a strong foothold in these regions. He emphasized that the police must safeguard citizens’ rights and ensure timely justice, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency in the criminal justice system.
The Union Home Minister outlined reforms in three new criminal laws aimed at expediting justice, with provisions for online data management and scientific evidence becoming central to prosecutions. He revealed that, within five years, every police station will be equipped with advanced technology to ensure swift processing of cases.
Shah reiterated that national security encompasses not just physical safety but also the protection of constitutional rights for all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups such as the poor, children, and women. He urged the young officers to maintain a relentless focus on eradicating anti-national activities while always prioritizing citizen safety.
In closing, he encouraged the probationers to strive for excellence in their duties, reminding them that their lasting legacy will be the positive impact they make in the communities they serve.
