Seema College Rohru to be Renamed After Late CM Virbhadra Singh; Rs. 101 Crore Development Projects Unveiled.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dedicated development projects worth Rs. 101 crore to the people of the Rohru assembly segment in Shimla district yesterday. Among the key initiatives, a state-of-the-art Cold Atmosphere (CA) Store with a capacity of 2031 metric tonnes, upgraded from 700 MT, was inaugurated with an investment of Rs. 29.22 crore, aimed at benefiting local horticulturists. Additionally, Rs. 20.93 crore was allocated for ultra-modern grading machinery capable of processing 5 MT per hour.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new Government Ayurvedic Hospital, constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.79 crore, along with the completion of crucial water supply schemes for Rohru, valued at Rs. 3.92 crore and Rs. 5.03 crore. Furthermore, Sukhu laid the foundation for road projects totaling Rs. 51.74 crore to improve connectivity in the region.

In a significant announcement at the annual function of Government College Seema, the Chief Minister revealed that the institution would be renamed in honor of the late former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. He also confirmed the introduction of a B.Ed. course at the college from the next academic session and pledged financial support for the construction of a new hostel and a multipurpose building.

Sukhu highlighted the declining quality of education during the previous BJP government’s tenure, criticizing their actions of opening educational and health institutions without adequate funding. He assured that the current government would focus on improving education and creating better employment opportunities through vocational courses.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur emphasized the state government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, citing the approval of 15,000 new posts in the education department. The government has also prioritized road restoration and initiatives for the upliftment of apple orchardists.

MLA Mohan Lal Brakta welcomed the Chief Minister, and students at Seema College presented a vibrant cultural program, for which Sukhu announced a grant of Rs. 1 lakh. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice President Zila Parishad, Shimla, Surender Retka, MD HPMC Sudesh Mokhta, and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
