Senior Revenue Officer Jai Gopal Sharma Retires After 38 Years of Service.
Shimla:
Jai Gopal Sharma, the esteemed Tehsildar of Nirmand in the Kullu district, has retired yesterday after serving in the government for an impressive 38 years. Hailing from Sundernagar in the Mandi district, Jai Gopal Sharma’s early life was filled with struggles. His father worked as a priest, and Jai Gopal himself worked as a laborer, contributing to the construction of roads and building infrastructure at the grassroots level.
Sharma began his government career in 1987 as a Revenue Officer (Kanungo) after direct recruitment. During this time, he also completed his undergraduate degree from Himachal University. In 2010-11, he was promoted to the post of Naib Tehsildar, serving in various regions, including the Nambhol area in Bilaspur and the Balichowki region in Mandi. In 2014, he was promoted to Tehsildar, a role he held across several districts, including Kangra, Mandi, Bilaspur, and Kullu.
From 2012 onwards, Sharma served as the Vice President and later as the President of the Himachal Pradesh Revenue Officers Association, where he became a prominent advocate for the issues faced by revenue officers. Notably, under his leadership, the revenue officers in the state went on strike in September 2022, demanding better working conditions and highlighting the importance of their roles in the public sector.
Even after retirement, Jai Gopal Sharma has expressed his commitment to continuing his work for the welfare of revenue officers and resolving land-related issues for the general public. His legacy as a dedicated public servant and leader will continue to inspire future generations.
