Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated Himachal Pradesh’s first-ever residential school for specially-abled children in Hiranagar, Shimla district. Built at a cost of Rs. 6.67 crore, the school, catering to children aged 6 to 18, offers modern facilities including 16 classrooms, a computer lab, a music room, and a multipurpose hall. The hostel block accommodates 50 children, with dedicated medical and residential staff quarters.

On the occasion, CM Sukhu highlighted that this initiative marks a significant step in the state’s commitment to the welfare of vulnerable children. He added that the government’s Mukhyamantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana, launched in the first budget, had already supported thousands of children with free education, vocational training, and Rs. 4,000 monthly pocket money. In the last two years, the scheme had provided financial benefits worth Rs. 38.50 crore.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister revealed plans to introduce a new, comprehensive welfare scheme for specially-abled children in the upcoming state budget. This initiative will be developed in consultation with educators to address their unique needs.

Sukhu also shared details of the Centre of Excellence being set up in Kandaghat, Solan district, which will provide higher education to 9,000 specially-abled individuals. In addition, the government is constructing Mukhyamantri Adarsh Gram Sukh Aashray complexes at Sundarnagar (Mandi) and Luthan (Kangra) to support the social security of vulnerable sections.

Health Minister Dr. Dhani Ram Shandil and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh extended their support, emphasizing the importance of creating an inclusive and nurturing environment for special children. Key officials and dignitaries, including former MLA Sohan Lal and Congress leader Chander Shekhar, also attended the event.
