Shimla:

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Labour and Employment Department to prioritize the digitization of data and integrate modern technology to improve the department’s operations. During a recent review of the department’s functioning, the Chief Minister emphasized that all department activities should be digitized, with an online database of skilled workers available for employers seeking talent. This initiative is expected to enhance employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth.

CM Sukhu also highlighted that, over the last two years, the state government had successfully provided jobs to 39,220 individuals. Of these, 13,704 positions were in the government sector. Recruitment efforts continue, with vacancies being filled in various departments. Additionally, the Chief Minister noted the success of the Rajiv Gandhi Swarojgar Start-Up Yojna, which has supported self-employment opportunities for young people. As of now, 121 candidates have been recommended by the Transport Department for subsidies to purchase e-taxis, which will be connected to government departments and provide guaranteed income for the owners.

Further, Sukhu shared that the state government plans to issue 200 e-taxi permits in the first phase, as part of a larger initiative to promote sustainable development, conserve the environment, and reduce the state’s carbon footprint. These measures align with Himachal’s tourism-based economy, where preserving the environment is key to attracting global visitors.

The Chief Minister also revealed that the state government is exploring overseas employment opportunities for skilled youth. In partnership with Dubai-based EFS Facility Service, five youths from the state have already secured jobs in Saudi Arabia, with more opportunities expected in the future. Sukhu assured that the well-being of these workers abroad would be closely monitored.

The meeting was attended by senior officers, including Secretary of Labour and Employment Priyanka Basu Ingty and Commissioner Virender Sharma, who supported these forward-looking initiatives aimed at improving employment prospects for the youth and enhancing the state’s overall economic growth.
