Himachal CM Directs Swift Purchase of 327 E-Buses, Focuses on HRTC’s Financial Growth and Service Expansion.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a crucial review meeting of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) on Tuesday, directing officials to expedite the purchase process for 327 electric buses (e-buses). CM Sukhu instructed that all necessary formalities be completed in a time-bound manner to ensure swift implementation of this initiative, which aims to modernize the state’s public transport system.
In addition to the e-buses, the Chief Minister announced plans to procure 100 Metadoor mini buses, aimed at improving transportation facilities in remote rural areas of Himachal Pradesh. These buses are expected to enhance connectivity and provide better services to the state’s underserved regions. CM Sukhu stated that the introduction of these buses would not only improve public transport but also help strengthen the financial position of the HRTC.
Addressing the corporation’s overall performance, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for HRTC to become self-reliant. He lauded the dedication of HRTC employees, noting that their hard work had significantly contributed to the improvement of the corporation’s financial health. The Chief Minister also highlighted that the corporation’s income had seen a substantial increase in recent months, reflecting positive growth.
The Chief Minister further noted that the HRTC was adopting new technologies to boost efficiency and profitability. Underlining its commitment to modernization, he mentioned that HRTC had already introduced a cashless payment option on its buses, making Himachal Pradesh the first state in India to offer such a facility, further enhancing convenience for passengers.
During the meeting, CM Sukhu also reviewed the performance, income, and expenditure of HRTC at both divisional and regional levels. He provided necessary directives to the officers to continue strengthening the corporation’s services while ensuring fiscal prudence and sustainability.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister on Infrastructure Anil Kapil, Additional Chief Secretary R.D. Nazim, Chief Minister’s Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, Managing Director of HRTC Rohan Chand Thakur, Chief Minister’s OSD Gopal Sharma, and other senior officials.
