Cooperative and Handloom Sectors Require Special Incentives in Budget: Satya Prakash Thakur.
Shimla:
Former Minister Satya Prakash Thakur has welcomed the state budget presented by the Himachal Pradesh government, praising it for addressing the needs of various sectors and being beneficial for all. However, he stressed the need to include both new and existing special schemes for the cooperative and handloom sectors, which hold significant importance in the state’s rural economy.
Thakur highlighted the critical role of the cooperative sector, which originated in Una district of Himachal Pradesh and has since expanded nationwide, providing employment to millions. Many well-known brands today operate under the cooperative model. In line with this, the central government has created a dedicated Ministry of Cooperation, headed by Union Minister Amit Shah, to strengthen the sector.
Thakur pointed out that while the state budget caters to various sectors, there is a specific need to focus on cooperatives and handloom, sectors that have a unique identity in Himachal Pradesh. These sectors provide livelihood to millions of people in rural areas, and the budget should include specific schemes to further promote and strengthen these industries.
He requested the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to consider including both old and new schemes for the cooperative and handloom sectors, which will help boost the state’s cottage and small industries. Thakur emphasized that such initiatives would help create a stronger, more vibrant cooperative and handloom industry in the state.
Thakur also expressed his confidence in the Chief Minister, noting that, as someone familiar with the basic needs of rural areas, he would undoubtedly ensure that the cooperative and handloom sectors receive the necessary support for their growth and development.
This proposal, if implemented, would further strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s rural economy and promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for its residents.
