Rajput Mahasabha Delegation Meets Himachal CM to Raise Concerns of Rajput and General Category Youth.
Shimla:
A delegation of the Rajput Mahasabha Himachal Pradesh, led by State President K.S. Jamwal, met with the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at Oak Over, presenting a detailed memorandum highlighting the challenges and neglect faced by the Rajput community and general category youth.
During the meeting, the delegation discussed a range of pressing issues and emphasized the growing concerns over discrimination and underrepresentation of the general category, particularly in government schemes and youth welfare policies.
Speaking to the media, President K.S. Jamwal said, “The Chief Minister listened attentively and expressed serious consideration of our core demands. He gave immediate, in-principle approval on several fronts.”
Key highlights of the meeting included:
Reconstitution of the General Category Commission: The delegation demanded revival of the commission that was shelved by the previous government. The Chief Minister assured to seek a departmental report and initiate positive action soon.
Equal Treatment in Schemes: Responding to concerns of appeasement of specific castes, the CM reiterated the government’s commitment to treating all sections of society equally. He cited initiatives like education loans up to Rs. 20 lakh at just 1% interest, available without caste discrimination.
Housing and Welfare Measures: Under Indira Awas Yojana, the government is allocating funds uniformly to all economically weaker families, regardless of caste.
Policy Review Requests: The Mahasabha urged reconsideration of:
Discontinuing inter-caste marriage incentive schemes
Reviewing the heavy financial provisions under SC/ST Atrocities Act
Providing Rs. 600 grants to general category students (Class 1–8) in government schools, on par with SC/ST benefits.
The Chief Minister clarified that many schemes are centrally sponsored but promised to review the concerns with relevant departments in light of the Mahasabha’s strong rationale.
Formation of Welfare Boards: The CM agreed to immediately constitute the Rajput Welfare Board and Brahmin Welfare Board, and instructed departments accordingly.
He also assured the delegation that a follow-up meeting would be arranged soon to address the remaining issues mentioned in the memorandum.
