Poor Road Conditions in Dharampur Constituency Spark Outcry: BJP Leader Rajat Thakur Demands Immediate Action.
Shimla:
BJP Himachal Pradesh’s Co-Media Incharge and former candidate from the Dharampur Assembly constituency in Mandi district, Rajat Thakur, has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Gaddidar–Sandhol main road, a crucial lifeline for thousands of residents across multiple panchayats.
During his visit to rural areas including Devgarh and Cholgarh, Thakur personally inspected the road, which he described as “more of a trench than a road” due to its alarming condition. He highlighted that this route serves as the primary access road for over 10,000 residents across 6 to 7 panchayats, yet remains severely neglected.
“The road is riddled with deep potholes making it unsafe not just for two-wheelers but even for four-wheelers,” said Thakur, expressing shock at the extent of the damage. He also conveyed the frustration of local residents, who reported that even newly purchased vehicles have been damaged due to the poor road conditions.
Criticizing the Public Works Department and the local MLA for their inaction, Thakur urged them to take immediate steps to provide relief to the people. “If full tarring of the road isn’t possible right now, at least undertake patchwork to make it somewhat drivable,” he appealed.
He specifically mentioned the remote panchayats of Koon, Torkhola, and Cholgarh, stating that these areas have remained deprived of development, with basic infrastructure still a distant dream. “The local MLA has completely ignored these regions, leaving the public to struggle for basic facilities,” Thakur added.
Rajat Thakur assured the local population that despite being in opposition, he would not hesitate to raise their concerns at every level. He warned that if no immediate action is taken, a public movement may be launched to demand accountability and better infrastructure.
This strong stance by Thakur brings much-needed attention to the worsening infrastructure in Dharampur, underscoring the urgent need for administrative action to ensure safe and reliable road connectivity for rural Himachal Pradesh.
