Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad today to personally oversee relief and recovery efforts following the devastating plane crash that claimed numerous lives, including that of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. In a day marked by grief and solidarity, the Prime Minister met with the injured survivors, visited the crash site, and chaired a high-level review meeting with top officials.

Modi’s visit underscored the gravity of the tragedy, which has left the nation in shock. Among those he met was the lone survivor of the crash, to whom he extended heartfelt assurances of national support and solidarity.

“Met those injured in the aftermath of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, including the lone survivor and assured them that we are with them and their families in this tough time. The entire nation is praying for their speedy recovery,” the Prime Minister posted on social media platform X.

He later chaired a review meeting at Ahmedabad Airport with senior authorities to take stock of the ongoing relief operations. Emergency responders and administrative officials briefed him on the measures being implemented to assist victims and affected families.

Condolences on the Demise of Vijay Rupani

In a deeply emotional moment, Prime Minister Modi also met with the family of Vijay Rupani, who was among those who lost their lives in the crash. Offering his condolences, Modi reflected on Rupani’s long and dedicated public service career. From his early days in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation to his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Rupani was remembered as a humble and committed leader.

“It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I’ve known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder, including during some of the most challenging times,” Modi wrote.
“Vijaybhai was humble and hardworking, firmly committed to the Party’s ideology. In every role—Rajya Sabha MP, Gujarat BJP President, Cabinet Minister—he distinguished himself. He ushered in many measures that enhanced Gujarat’s growth trajectory, particularly in boosting ‘Ease of Living’.”

The Prime Minister shared that he would always cherish their years of collaboration and camaraderie, calling Rupani’s passing an immense personal and national loss.

A Nation Mourns

Earlier in the day, Modi visited the crash site to witness the scale of devastation firsthand. He interacted with emergency teams who have been working relentlessly in rescue and recovery operations.

In a separate post, Modi stated, “We are all devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families. We understand their pain and also know that the void left behind will be felt for years to come. Om Shanti.”
