20th Installment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi to be Released on August 2 by PM Modi from Varanasi
Rs. 20,500 Crore to Benefit 9.7 Crore Farmers Nationwide.
New Delhi:
The 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme will be disbursed on August 2, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi releasing the funds from Varanasi. The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) will see Rs. 20,500 crore credited directly to the accounts of 9.7 crore farmers across India.
In preparation for this nationwide event, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chaired a high-level review meeting today in New Delhi. The meeting was attended virtually by directors, vice chancellors, and heads of 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), officials from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and agricultural universities across the country.
Chouhan directed that the event be celebrated as both a festival and a mission, ensuring maximum reach and participation from farmers at national, state, district, and village levels. He highlighted the importance of early preparations and emphasized the role of grassroots workers—Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, Bank Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, Bima Sakhis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches—in mobilizing awareness and farmer participation.
“Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Rs. 6,000 is transferred annually to each eligible farmer in three equal installments. The 20th installment is another step in our commitment to strengthen rural livelihoods,” said Chouhan. He also called upon KVKs and local officials to use the occasion to educate farmers on agricultural development programmes and engage them in discussions about Kharif crops.
Since its inception in 2019, the PM-Kisan scheme has become one of the largest DBT initiatives in the world, disbursing Rs. 3.69 lakh crore across 19 installments to eligible farmers.
The upcoming event will not only mark the release of the next installment but also serve as a nationwide awareness campaign on the significance of PM-Kisan and other farmer-centric government schemes.
Senior officials including Agriculture Secretary Shri Devesh Chaturvedi and ICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat were present during the review meeting.
