In a landmark 103-minute address—the longest of his tenure—Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful and visionary speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day. Emphasising “Viksit Bharat by 2047”, PM Modi laid out a sweeping agenda that encapsulated India’s aspirations for the centenary of its independence.

From strategic defence and technological innovation to economic reform and social empowerment, the Prime Minister’s address offered a comprehensive blueprint for transforming India into a $10 trillion economy—self-reliant, inclusive, and globally competitive.


A Vision of Viksit Bharat: The Road to 2047

PM Modi opened by calling Independence Day a celebration of the “140 crore resolutions” of every Indian, underscoring the collective spirit of nation-building. He declared India’s resolve to become a fully developed nation by 2047, rooted in self-reliance (Atmanirbharta), innovation, and citizen empowerment.

“India must extend its own line of progress. Reform is not just about economics—it’s about transforming the daily lives of citizens,” he said.

He called upon India’s youth to innovate boldly and take pride in indigenous solutions, citing the CoWIN platform and Indian-made COVID-19 vaccines as templates for global leadership.


Innovation, Technology & Industrial Self-Reliance

PM Modi announced:

  • Mission Sudarshan Chakra: A new defence initiative inspired by Indian mythology, symbolising strategic autonomy and rapid-response capabilities.
  • Jet Engine Development Challenge: An open call to India’s youth and scientists to build indigenous jet engines.
  • Made-in-India Semiconductor Chips: Set to launch by the end of 2025.
  • Space Sector Leap: India to launch its own space station and intensify innovations in satellites and deep-space exploration.
  • National Critical Minerals Mission: 1,200 mining sites identified to boost energy and industrial self-reliance.

⚔️ Defence and National Security: A No-Tolerance Stance

PM Modi issued a stern warning to adversaries:

“India will respond to terrorism on its own terms, at its own time, and with decisive strength.”

He declared that Operation Sindoor, powered entirely by Made-in-India weapons, marked a turning point in India’s defence posture, showing the country’s ability to act swiftly without foreign dependence.

Additionally, he denounced the Indus Waters Treaty as unjust and reiterated the principle: “Blood and water will not flow together.”


Energy Independence & Clean Power Revolution

  • Mission Green Hydrogen: Massive investments to make India a leader in clean hydrogen energy.
  • Solar Power Surge: A 30-fold increase in 11 years, with a 50% clean energy goal already achieved by 2025—5 years ahead of target.
  • National Deepwater Exploration Mission: To tap offshore energy and reduce fuel imports.
  • Tenfold Increase in Nuclear Power: India to massively expand nuclear energy by 2047.

Economic Reforms & Middle-Class Empowerment

  • Next-Gen GST Reform: By Diwali 2025, taxes on daily essentials will be reduced to benefit MSMEs and consumers.
  • Income Tax Exemption up to Rs. 12 Lakh: A major relief for middle-class families.
  • PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana: Rs. 1 lakh crore scheme to benefit 3 crore youth, providing Rs. 15,000 to each newly employed.

A Task Force for Next-Gen Reforms will examine and streamline outdated economic laws to reduce compliance burdens and foster entrepreneurial growth.


Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare

PM Modi called India’s farmers the “backbone of self-reliant Bharat”, highlighting record-breaking grain production and Rs. 4 lakh crore in agricultural exports.

A High-Powered Demography Mission will be launched to safeguard India’s unity, addressing illegal migration and demographic changes in border areas.

He also celebrated the transformation of Maoist-affected districts into green development corridors:

“From red corridors to constitutional corridors—we have hoisted the tricolour in once-unstable regions.”


Youth, Startups & Sports

  • PM urged youth to develop India’s own social media and digital platforms.
  • Announced a robust National Sports Policy and Khelo India initiative to nurture talent and promote fitness.

Governance Overhaul & Legal Reform

  • Over 1,500 outdated laws repealed; 40,000 compliances scrapped.
  • Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita introduced to replace colonial penal codes with citizen-centric, modern justice systems.
