Prime Minister Narendra Modi today received a telephone call from the President of the French Republic, H.E. Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders held a wide-ranging discussion on global and bilateral issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, stability, and deeper strategic cooperation.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi and President Macron exchanged views on the ongoing efforts to peacefully resolve international conflicts, particularly in Ukraine and the West Asia region. President Macron briefed PM Modi on recent high-level meetings in Washington involving leaders from Europe, the United States, and Ukraine. He also shared his perspectives on the evolving situation in Gaza.

Reiterating India’s long-standing position, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of diplomacy and dialogue, and expressed India’s consistent support for a peaceful resolution of conflicts and the early restoration of peace and stability in affected regions.

Beyond global issues, the leaders reviewed progress in the robust India-France bilateral agenda. They discussed ongoing cooperation in key sectors including trade, defence, civil nuclear energy, technology, and energy transition.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-France Strategic Partnership. Notably, they agreed to mark the year 2026 as the ‘Year of Innovation’ in a meaningful and impactful manner to further bolster collaboration in science and technology.

President Macron also conveyed France’s support for the early conclusion of the long-pending Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union, a move that could significantly boost economic ties.

The leaders agreed to remain in regular contact and continue their close coordination on regional and global issues.
