1166 Pilgrims Rescued from Bharmour in 24 Hours in Massive Operation Led by State Government.
Chamba:
In one of the largest rescue efforts in recent times, 1,166 pilgrims stranded in Bharmour during the Manimahesh Yatra were safely evacuated within 24 hours on Friday, thanks to a swift and coordinated operation led by the State Government under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The large-scale operation involved both air and ground rescue efforts, ensuring the safe return of devotees amid difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.

On Friday, 524 individuals were airlifted from Bharmour to Chamba in 12 sorties by the Indian Air Force’s Chinook helicopters. Additionally, three mortal remains of deceased pilgrims were respectfully transported from Bharmour to Chamba. A day prior, 35 pilgrims were rescued in 7 helicopter sorties, all free of cost, as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
In parallel, the Chamba district administration successfully transported 607 stranded pilgrims by road, navigating through partially damaged stretches with adequate security arrangements in place. In areas where roads were impassable, arrangements were made for pilgrims to walk safely, with assistance provided along the route.

To further ease the journey, the administration arranged free meals, drinking water, and essential supplies for the pilgrims. From Chamba, the rescued individuals were transported late night to Nurpur and Pathankot in 13 HRTC buses, once again free of cost.
Chief Minister Sukhu, speaking to media in Kullu, commended the efforts of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, who personally oversaw the rescue operations at Bharmour. He also praised the coordinated efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, Himachal Police, Home Guards, Chamba District Administration, officials from various departments, NGOs, and local volunteers for their tireless and selfless service during the crisis.

The Chief Minister said that the safety and well-being of every citizen remains a top priority for the State Government, and such operations demonstrate the strength of collective effort and responsive governance.
This successful rescue operation stands as a shining example of quick decision-making, inter-agency coordination, and unwavering commitment to public service.
