Centre Extends Deadline for PMGSY-I Road Works in Dodra Kwar Till March 2027: Vikramaditya Singh.

Shimla:

Vikramaditya Singh, Public Works Department Minister of Himachal Pradesh, on Monday informed that the Union Ministry of Finance has approved an extension for completing pending road works under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Phase-I in the remote Dodra Kwar region of Shimla district till March 31, 2027.

The minister said the approval followed his recent meeting in New Delhi with Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during which several issues related to strengthening rural road connectivity in the hill state were discussed in detail.

Singh stated that some PMGSY-I road works in the high-altitude and geographically challenging Dodra Kwar area had been delayed due to extremely difficult terrain, harsh climatic conditions and a very limited working season. According to him, the extension granted by the Union Finance Ministry will enable authorities to complete the remaining works within the revised timeline.

He emphasized that the completion of these roads is crucial for residents of the remote region, particularly for disaster management, medical emergencies and the supply of essential commodities. The minister added that improved road connectivity would significantly enhance access to basic services and strengthen the overall infrastructure in this border area.

Expressing gratitude, Singh thanked Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the Union Ministry of Finance for positively considering the state’s request and taking swift action on the matter. He reiterated that the state government is committed to ensuring all-weather road connectivity to every remote and far-flung region of Himachal Pradesh, including Dodra Kwar.

The minister further informed that Himachal Pradesh has already secured approval for nearly 1,500 kilometres of rural road projects under PMGSY-IV, with an estimated investment of around ₹2,300 crore. He said this sanction, along with the extension for pending PMGSY-I works, will give a significant boost to rural connectivity and inclusive development across the state.

Reaffirming the government’s focus on infrastructure development, Singh said expanding safe and reliable rural road networks remains a top priority for the state. He also appealed to local public representatives, Panchayati Raj Institutions and landowners to extend full cooperation in providing land and completing other formalities so that all projects approved under PMGSY-I and PMGSY-IV can be completed within the stipulated time for the benefit of the people of Himachal Pradesh.
