Former MLA Ravi Thakur Urges Centre to Waive Farm Loans for Lahaul Farmers After Natural Calamity.
Shimla:
Former MLA from Lahaul and Spiti Ravi Thakur held a telephonic conversation with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, regarding the extensive damage caused by a recent natural calamity in Lahaul. During the discussion, Thakur highlighted the heavy losses suffered by local farmers, whose vegetable produce was severely damaged due to adverse weather conditions this year.
Thakur emphasized the urgent need for central intervention and urged the minister to consider waiving the agricultural loans of affected farmers in Lahaul and Spiti. He expressed concern that without timely relief, the already fragile agrarian economy of the region could face further setbacks.
Taking a strong stance against misinformation, Ravi Thakur also called out certain political figures who, according to him, have been misleading the public by falsely claiming they have spoken to the Union Minister about the issue. “Some leaders are spreading falsehoods by saying they have discussed the matter with the Minister. However, Tamta has clearly stated that he has not had any conversation with any former minister or leader from Lahaul regarding this situation,” Thakur clarified.
He urged all stakeholders to remain honest and united in addressing the crisis, rather than using it for political mileage.
The former MLA’s appeal adds pressure on the central government to provide immediate relief to the hill district’s farming community, who are reeling under financial stress after this year’s unprecedented crop losses.
