Residents of Paddal Gurudwara Mohalla Urge CM for Urgent Action on Unsafe, Outdated Power Cables.

Shimla:

The residents of Paddal Gurudwara Mohalla in Mandi have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating and potentially dangerous state of the local electricity distribution system. In a written appeal addressed to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, the locals have urged immediate intervention to reorganize and upgrade the outdated Low Tension (LT) power cables currently in use.

According to the residents, the existing LT cables installed by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) are not only of inadequate size but have also become a serious safety hazard. A large cluster of these cables is precariously mounted on a central LT pole in the middle of the locality, posing a grave risk to pedestrians and residents alike.

“These outdated cables are not being maintained or upgraded. In today’s time, when AB (Aerial Bundled) cables, particularly LT XLPE, offer far better safety and efficiency, we are still dealing with exposed, necked wires and overloaded poles,” said Puran, a resident who co-signed the petition.

The residents also reported frequent load shedding over the past two weeks, with no adequate response from the local HPSEBL office. The power cuts and unstable voltage have caused significant inconvenience, especially as the area continues to grow with new housing.

The petition, which includes photographic evidence of the cable cluster and signatures of concerned residents, requests that the Chief Minister direct HPSEBL to conduct a fresh survey and replace the existing cables with modern Aerial Bundled cables that ensure safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Locals emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating, “This is not just an issue of inconvenience but of public safety. We look forward to the Chief Minister’s swift and kind intervention.”

The letter, signed by several residents including Kritika Thakur and Puran and other, reflects a growing concern among citizens about outdated infrastructure and the pressing need for responsive governance.
