In a significant move to combat substance abuse and support mental health recovery, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the establishment of a modern de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at Kotla-Barog in Sirmaur district. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister with officials from the Social Justice & Empowerment Department and allied departments.

The upcoming centre, with a proposed capacity of 100 beds, will be a state-of-the-art facility equipped with a range of amenities aimed at holistic recovery and reintegration of patients. These include a library, gymnasium, and sports facilities, along with provisions for skill development and vocational training — essential for helping recovering individuals regain self-reliance and re-enter the workforce.

Highlighting the state government’s commitment, CM Sukhu stated that an initial amount of Rs. 534.36 lakh has already been sanctioned for the project. “If additional funds are required for the successful completion of this centre, the government will ensure their provision,” he assured.

To facilitate the construction of the facility, the Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners of Solan and Sirmaur — who joined the meeting virtually — to expedite the transfer of land from the Animal Husbandry Department to the Social Justice & Empowerment Department.

The meeting was attended by Social Justice & Empowerment Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Additional Chief Secretary Shyam Bhagat Negi, Principal Secretary (Law) Rajiv Bali, Director Sumit Kimta, and other senior officials.

The move aligns with the state government’s broader strategy to address the rising concern of substance abuse and mental health challenges in Himachal Pradesh, aiming to provide both medical care and socio-economic rehabilitation to affected individuals.
