UK and Belgium Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation under Renewed EU-UK Framework.

London:

The United Kingdom and Belgium have reaffirmed their close partnership and commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation through a joint statement aimed at advancing shared strategic, economic and security interests. The two countries described themselves as close neighbours, like-minded partners and Allies, united by common values and long-standing ties.

The joint statement builds on cooperation under the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the Renewed Agenda for European Union–United Kingdom Cooperation, agreed on 19 May 2025. It outlines a shared intention to further strengthen collaboration across key sectors while maintaining strong alignment with existing international and European frameworks.

Both sides underlined the importance of working together on issues of global significance, including the safety and sustainability of international shipping. Recognising shared energy challenges, the UK and Belgium also agreed to explore avenues for cooperation and exchanges in the field of nuclear energy. The focus will be on securing reliable, competitive and low-carbon energy supplies, which are seen as essential for long-term economic stability and climate goals.

For Belgium, the joint statement reflects the collective involvement of all levels of governance, including the federal government, the governments of Flanders and Wallonia, the Brussels Capital Region, as well as the French and German Community governments. It was clarified that the provisions of the statement do not affect Belgium’s internal division of competences.

The agreement highlights the determination of both countries to deepen cooperation, strengthen resilience and contribute jointly to regional and global stability.
