50th Death Anniversary of Lahaul’s First Woman Legislator Lata Thakur Observed with Reverence in Kullu.

A solemn and respectful programme was organised On Sunday December 13, 2025, at the Sangam Tribal Welfare Sarai in Kullu district of to mark the 50th death anniversary of Lahaul’s first woman legislator, the late Mrs. Lata Thakur. The event was held in an atmosphere of deep reverence, remembering her pioneering role and invaluable contributions to social service, politics, and tribal welfare.
On the occasion, speakers paid heartfelt tributes to Mrs. Lata Thakur, recalling her lifelong dedication towards the upliftment of tribal communities and her historic role as a trailblazer for women in public life in the Lahaul region. Her vision and commitment to public welfare were highlighted as a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
The programme also respectfully acknowledged the contribution of former BDC member Renuka Dogra, who had extended significant support during her tenure for the construction of the Sangam Tribal Welfare Sarai. Her efforts were remembered with appreciation for strengthening welfare infrastructure for the tribal community.
Former MLA of Lahaul-Spiti and BJP State Executive Member Ravi Thakur, announced that he has personally provided financial assistance of Rs. 3,00,000 to help complete the Sarai building. He also assured continued support in the future to further strengthen facilities dedicated to public and tribal welfare.
In addition, it was informed that construction work of a memorial is underway at the site where Mrs. Lata Thakur tragically lost her life in a road accident, so that her legacy and sacrifices may be permanently commemorated.
The event emerged as an inspiring occasion that reinforced the values of service, dedication, and public welfare, while honouring the life and legacy of one of Lahaul’s most respected leaders.
