Sissu Police Station Inaugurated to Enhance Law and Order in Lahaul-Spiti.

Shimla:

To strengthen law and order and ensure quicker police services in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, MLA Anuradha Rana on Monday formally inaugurated the Sissu Police Station. The inauguration was conducted with traditional rituals and prayers. Superintendent of Police Shivani Mehla, along with senior officers of the police department, was present on the occasion.

After the inauguration, addressing a public gathering, MLA Anuradha Rana said that since the opening of the Atal Tunnel, tourist inflow into the district has increased significantly. She noted that areas such as Koksar, the northern portal of the Atal Tunnel, and Sissu witness a heavy rush of tourists, creating new challenges related to traffic regulation, law and order, and management of growing commercial activities. Earlier, the presence of only a police post in Sissu had put additional pressure on the police administration. With the establishment of a full-fledged police station, these challenges will now be addressed more effectively.

The MLA informed that the demand for a police station in Sissu was raised before the state government, which took a positive decision and approved the proposal. She expressed special gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for sanctioning the police station. With the new police station becoming operational, 45 police officers and personnel will be deployed in Sissu, compared to only six personnel earlier posted at the police post.

Anuradha Rana said that the new police station will directly benefit residents of five surrounding panchayats—Koksar, Sissu, Mooling, Gondhla, and Khangsar. People will no longer have to travel to Keylong for police-related work, as all necessary services will now be available locally. She added that in case of road accidents, natural disasters, or emergencies, police response and relief operations will now be faster and more efficient.

She further stated that the existing building of the police station has been renovated. In addition, land has been identified for the construction of a new police station building as well as residential quarters for police personnel. The land will soon be transferred in the name of the department, and construction work will begin shortly with adequate financial provision.

The MLA also appealed to the public and the police department to remain vigilant and take strict action against drug traffickers to protect the youth from substance abuse. She emphasized that active participation of society is essential to create a drug-free and safe environment. She assured that any shortcomings in infrastructure or facilities at the police station would be addressed promptly to further strengthen policing in the region.

Superintendent of Police Shivani Mehla welcomed the chief guest and honoured MLA Anuradha Rana with a traditional cap, khadak, and shawl.

Zila Parishad Chairperson Veena Devi, Zila Parishad Member Nirmala, former District Congress President Gyalchhan Thakur, BDC Member Tashi Kesang, Sissu Gram Panchayat Pradhan Rajeev, Khangsar Pradhan Suresh, Gondhla Pradhan Suraj Thakur, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Lal, Assistant Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department Anju Devi, Sanjay Bodh, members of local women’s groups, prominent citizens, and police officers and personnel were also present at the event.
