Israel Officially Recognizes Somaliland as Independent State in Historic Declaration.

Jerusalem:

In a landmark diplomatic move, the Prime Minister announced today that the State of Israel has formally recognized the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, marking a significant development in regional and international relations.

The announcement followed the signing of a joint and mutual declaration by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah. The declaration affirms mutual recognition and the establishment of official relations between the two sides.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the declaration is inspired by the spirit of the Abraham Accords, which were initiated under the leadership of former U.S. President Donald Trump and aimed at promoting peace, cooperation, and normalization between Israel and its partners in the region.

Prime Minister Netanyahu congratulated President Abdallah on what he described as a “historic moment” for Somaliland and praised the President’s leadership and commitment to stability and peace. He also extended an official invitation for President Abdallah to visit Israel in the near future.

President Abdallah, in turn, thanked Prime Minister Netanyahu for the recognition, calling it a milestone for the people of Somaliland. He expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s efforts in combating terrorism and advancing regional peace and cooperation.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the role played by Foreign Minister Sa’ar, Mossad Director David Barnea, and the Mossad in contributing to the diplomatic process that led to today’s announcement. He concluded by wishing the people of Somaliland success, prosperity, and freedom.

In practical terms, Israel announced plans to immediately expand bilateral relations with the Republic of Somaliland. Officials said cooperation will focus on key areas including agriculture, health, technology, and economic development, with the aim of strengthening institutions, promoting growth, and enhancing regional stability.

Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, has long sought international recognition and has emphasized its relative stability and self-governance compared to the wider region. Today’s declaration represents a major diplomatic breakthrough for Somaliland and signals Israel’s intent to broaden its partnerships in Africa and the Horn of Africa.

Further details on the implementation of bilateral agreements and future diplomatic exchanges are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
