Hyderabad:

Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Thursday described his meeting with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy as “highly productive and cordial,” lauding the southern state’s ambitious and inclusive reforms in the education sector.

The meeting was held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, where the Chief Minister briefed the Himachal Pradesh delegation on Telangana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen government schools and expand access to quality public education.

Thakur said he was deeply impressed by the visionary initiatives being rolled out by the Telangana government, particularly those aimed at bridging the gap between government and private institutions. Among the key reforms discussed were the introduction of pre-primary education in government schools, a move designed to ensure early childhood learning and enhance competitiveness with private schools.

The Telangana government is also in the process of formulating a dedicated State Education Policy aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), which Thakur described as a forward-looking step toward systemic reform. Other notable initiatives include the provision of transport facilities for rural students to improve access and attendance, and the upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) in every constituency to strengthen skill development and employability.

A major highlight of the discussion was the establishment of world-class Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS) for students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minority communities. Thakur said these integrated residential schools represent a strong model of social inclusion and educational equity.

The Himachal Pradesh Education Minister thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for suggesting a visit to the upgraded Advanced Training Centre at Mallepally and said he had requested detailed information on the YIIRS model. He noted that Himachal Pradesh is keen to study and draw inspiration from Telangana’s initiatives while exploring the possibility of adapting similar models back home.

Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Telangana government, Thakur said the interaction reinforced the shared commitment of both states toward ensuring quality education for all and strengthening the public education system through innovation and inclusive policies.
