PM Keir Starmer Calls for Unity, Principled Diplomacy and Firm Action on Global Challenges and Cost of Living.

London:

Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday delivered a strong statement on international affairs and domestic cost-of-living pressures, emphasizing the need for national unity, principled partnerships, and steady leadership at a critical moment for the United Kingdom.

Underscoring that cooperation with global partners must not come at the expense of national values, the Prime Minister stated that partnership “does not mean abandoning principle.” He stressed the importance of clarity in foreign policy, saying it is vital to be clear about “who we stand with, what we stand for, and where our interests lie.”

Calling the current situation a defining moment, Starmer urged the country to come together in the national interest. He welcomed cross-party support, particularly on international issues relating to Greenland and proposed tariffs, and thanked the Leader of the Opposition for her backing. The Prime Minister said such unity sends a strong signal at a time when Britain’s economic security and international standing are closely linked.

Criticizing what he described as performative politics, Starmer warned against substituting serious governance with “angry social media posts or grandstanding.” While acknowledging that such reactions may be understandable, he said they are ultimately ineffective and fail to address the real concerns of working people.

“Jobs, livelihoods and security depend on the relationships we build across the world,” the Prime Minister said, adding that political theatrics may offer short-term satisfaction but deliver no tangible benefits for families facing rising living costs.

Outlining the government’s approach going forward, Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to working closely with allies in Europe, across NATO, and with the United States. He emphasized the importance of keeping diplomatic dialogue open, defending international law, and using the full capacity of government—both domestically and internationally—to safeguard national interests.

The Prime Minister concluded by stating that his government would act decisively to protect the security, living standards, and future of the British people, describing this balanced and responsible approach as one demanded by the gravity of the moment.
