Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Mourns Soldier Killed in Southern Lebanon Clash.
Jerusalem:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Israeli Combat Engineering soldier Sgt. Nehoray Leizer, who was killed during military operations in southern Lebanon amid ongoing tensions along Israel’s northern border.
In an official statement released on behalf of himself and his wife, Netanyahu paid tribute to the fallen soldier, describing him as “a wonderful young man from Eilat” who fought “with heroism” in defense of Israel against the Hezbollah militant organization.
“Nehoray dedicated his soul to defending our northern border against the Hezbollah terrorist organization,” Netanyahu said, extending condolences to the soldier’s family and friends. “We share in their deep sorrow. May his memory be a blessing.”
Sgt. Nehoray Leizer served in Israel’s Combat Engineering Corps, a unit often tasked with high-risk frontline operations, including clearing explosives, constructing defensive positions, and supporting infantry forces during combat missions.
The incident comes as fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah continues to escalate along the Israel-Lebanon border. Cross-border exchanges of fire have intensified in recent months, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
Leizer’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief in his hometown of Eilat, where residents remembered him as a dedicated young man committed to serving his country.
Israeli leaders and military officials have continued to honor soldiers killed in ongoing operations, while reaffirming their commitment to maintaining security along the northern frontier.
