Shimla:
National Voters’ Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and dignity on 25 January at Vallabh Government College, Mandi. The programme organised on this occasion was presided over by Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Flight Commander, NCC Air Force Wing, Mandi.
While addressing the gathering, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman stated that the primary objective of National Voters’ Day is to create awareness among citizens about the importance of voting and to highlight the decisive role of voters in a democratic system.
He emphasized that voting is the foundation of democracy, and its confident, fearless, and impartial exercise is the hallmark of a strong nation.

Flying Officer Dr. Chaman made a special appeal to youth and NCC cadets to ensure that they get their names registered in the electoral roll immediately upon attaining the age of 18 and actively participate in the democratic process. He further stated that the National Cadet Corps (NCC), with its spirit of ‘Nation First’, instils discipline, leadership, and a sense of civic responsibility, of which voter awareness is an important component.
On this occasion, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman administered the Voters’ Pledge to the NCC cadets. He also provided detailed information about voter awareness programmes conducted by the Election Commission of India, highlighting that NCC cadets can play an effective role as Voter Awareness Ambassadors in society by motivating citizens to vote freely and fearlessly.
He further stated that National Voters’ Day is a strong initiative towards inclusive democracy, as it promotes the participation of women voters, persons with disabilities, and marginalized sections of society. He emphasized that aware voters form the foundation of transparent, accountable, and responsive governance.
At the conclusion of the programme, a collective pledge was taken by all present to exercise their right to vote without fear, pressure, or inducement, and to actively contribute to the protection and strengthening of democratic values.
