The Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the National Arogya Fair 2026 at Shegaon in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district today, underscoring the vital role of AYUSH systems in strengthening citizens’ health and promoting holistic well-being. On the occasion, she also felicitated six senior Vaidyas for their significant contributions to AYUSH healthcare.

Addressing the gathering, the President said that in India’s tradition, overall health is regarded as the greatest happiness and forms the foundation of a strong nation. She noted that healthy citizens play a crucial role in national development and emphasized that AYUSH systems of medicine have made an invaluable contribution to public health over the years. Systems such as Yoga, Ayurveda, and Siddha, she said, have been serving people since the early phases of modern medical practice.

The President highlighted the country’s rich natural heritage, stating that farms, kitchens, and forests contain a vast treasure of medicinal plants and health-protecting herbs. She stressed the importance of conserving and enhancing this wealth to ensure a steady supply of raw materials for medicines while maintaining ecological balance. According to her, cultivating medicinal plants not only strengthens farmers’ economic conditions but also improves soil health and aids environmental conservation.

She further observed that Ayurveda, Yoga, and other AYUSH systems provide comprehensive guidance for leading a balanced and healthy life. In the present era, she said, the global community is increasingly recognizing the value of integrative medicine in disease prevention. Yoga has gained worldwide acceptance as a means to achieve a stress-free lifestyle, while Ayurvedic therapies and medicines are being widely adopted for their preventive and curative benefits.

The President appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of AYUSH in promoting evidence-based research, standardization of medicines, and stringent quality control measures to enhance the credibility and global acceptance of AYUSH systems. She noted that general guidelines for research and drug development have been formulated in alignment with international standards and that several scientific initiatives are underway to establish Ayurveda, Yoga, and other traditional systems as reliable and scientific solutions to modern health challenges.

Expressing confidence in the future of traditional medicine, the President said that by combining scientific innovation, global collaboration, and modern interventions with India’s rich medical heritage, AYUSH systems can become an integral component of the holistic healthcare framework, both nationally and globally.
