On the occasion of National Science Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to advancing science and technology as key drivers of national development and global progress. Emphasizing the importance of research, innovation, and scientific curiosity, the Prime Minister said that these pillars continue to propel India’s growth story in the 21st century.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister stated that National Science Day is a celebration of the spirit of inquiry and innovation that defines the nation’s scientific community and inspires future generations.

Highlighting the historical significance of the day, the Prime Minister noted that National Science Day commemorates the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect by renowned Indian physicist C. V. Raman. The discovery, made in 1928, earned global recognition and firmly placed Indian scientific research on the world map. It later led to Sir C. V. Raman being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, marking a milestone in India’s scientific achievements.

“Today, on National Science Day, we celebrate the spirit of research, innovation and scientific curiosity that drives our nation forward. This day commemorates the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman. This discovery placed Indian research firmly on the global map,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Reiterating the government’s vision for a science-driven future, the Prime Minister emphasized empowering youth, strengthening research ecosystems, and fostering innovation-led development. He underlined that investments in science and technology are not only crucial for India’s national progress but also for contributing solutions to global challenges.

National Science Day is observed annually on February 28 to honor the discovery of the Raman Effect and to promote the importance of science in everyday life. Across the country, educational institutions, research organizations, and scientific communities organize events, exhibitions, and discussions to inspire students and innovators.

As India advances toward becoming a knowledge-based economy, the Prime Minister’s message underscores a renewed national resolve to harness science and technology for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and the greater global good.
