Israel Prepares for Easter and Holy Fire Ceremonies Amid Iranian Missile Threats to Jerusalem.
Jerusalem:
The Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding heightened security measures for upcoming religious ceremonies in Jerusalem, following missile attacks by the Iran targeting the city’s holy sites.
According to the ministry, the Israel Police is taking proactive steps to safeguard the lives of all worshippers, while simultaneously preparing for the traditional Easter and Holy Fire ceremonies in Jerusalem’s Old City. The measures aim to ensure public safety without disrupting these important religious observances.
In close coordination with senior church officials—Patriarch Theophilos III, Archbishop Sevan Gharibian, and Bishop Theodoros Zakarian—it was decided that this year’s ceremonies will be held in a limited and symbolic format.
The ministry emphasized that all parties remain committed to both the safety of worshippers and the preservation of freedom of worship in Jerusalem’s Old City, highlighting Israel’s dedication to maintaining religious traditions even under security threats.
Officials noted that security operations include strict access controls, surveillance, and emergency response readiness to mitigate risks posed by missile attacks, while ensuring that religious observances proceed in a dignified manner.
The ministry’s statement comes amid heightened regional tensions, signaling Israel’s intent to protect its citizens and maintain the sanctity of its historic religious sites.
