Jerusalem:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed strong support for a proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump to suspend military strikes against Iran for a period of two weeks, contingent upon immediate de-escalatory actions from Tehran.

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel endorses the temporary halt in strikes provided that Iran takes concrete steps, including reopening critical maritime routes and ceasing all hostile activities against the United States, Israel, and other countries in the region. The reference to reopening the straits is widely understood to point to ensuring safe passage through key waterways vital for global trade and energy supplies.

The statement further emphasized Israel’s alignment with U.S. strategic objectives aimed at neutralizing what it described as Iran’s nuclear, missile, and terror-related threats. These concerns extend beyond Israel to include the United States, Arab nations in the region, and broader international security.

Israeli officials indicated that Washington has reassured Jerusalem of its commitment to achieving these shared goals through upcoming diplomatic negotiations. The proposed two-week ceasefire period is expected to provide a window for dialogue and potential de-escalation, though significant challenges remain.

Notably, the ceasefire arrangement explicitly excludes Lebanon, signaling that tensions along Israel’s northern border could persist independently of any temporary pause in actions involving Iran. This exclusion highlights the complexity of regional dynamics, where multiple fronts and actors continue to influence the security landscape.

The development comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with global attention focused on whether diplomatic efforts can yield tangible outcomes in reducing the risk of broader conflict.
