Shimla:
Himachal Pradesh Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh presided over the annual prize distribution ceremony at Dreamz College of Pharmacy, located near Sundernagar in Mandi district, during his two-day visit. On the occasion, he felicitated meritorious students and encouraged them to pursue excellence with dedication and a positive mindset.
Youth Power Key to State’s Future
Addressing the gathering, Singh emphasized that consistent hard work throughout the year lays the foundation for success. He highlighted that young people with a positive outlook can overcome any challenge and play a vital role in taking the state to new heights. “The youth are the cornerstone of a brighter future for Himachal Pradesh,” he said.
Focus on Climate Change and Sustainable Development
The minister also raised concerns about the growing impact of climate change in the state. He noted that erratic rainfall and shifting weather patterns are adversely affecting agriculture and horticulture, particularly in hilly regions. Stressing the importance of balanced growth, Singh called for the adoption of modern technologies while ensuring that development does not lead to environmental degradation. He underlined the need to prevent man-made disasters and prioritize sustainable development practices.
Tourism, Technology, and Innovation
Highlighting Himachal Pradesh’s tourism-driven economy, Singh said preserving natural resources is crucial for long-term growth. He urged students to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and contribute to the state’s development, especially in engineering and technical fields.

Political Remarks and Development Initiatives
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Singh responded to criticism about Congress’s legacy by citing major infrastructure and institutional achievements. He referred to projects like the Pandoh Dam as examples of significant contributions. He also mentioned that under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, institutions such as ISRO, AIIMS, and the IITs were established, strengthening India’s global standing.
Collaboration for Infrastructure Development
Singh further informed that the Public Works Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT Ropar to train engineers in advanced construction techniques. This initiative aims to ensure scientific methods in road construction, hill cutting, culverts, and drainage systems, minimizing future risks in mountainous terrains.
Cultural Performances and Dignitaries Present
The event also featured vibrant cultural performances by students, including Himachali, Punjabi, and devotional presentations. Managing Director Naresh Chauhan welcomed the chief guest and shared insights about the institution’s activities, while Principal Vivek Kumar Gupta presented the annual report.
