Young Woman Murdered Near Gopalpur in Mandi; Accused Arrested, Case Registered Under BNS 103(1).

In a disturbing incident, a young woman was brutally attacked and killed near Vahanji (Gopalpur) along the main road in Sarkaghat subdivision of Mandi district today morning. The Sarkaghat Police have registered a case and arrested the main accused in connection with the murder.

According to official information, FIR No. 55/26 dated April 13, 2026, has been registered at Police Station Sarkaghat under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police received information early in the morning that a young girl had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon (darat) near Gopalpur.

Acting swiftly, the police team led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sarkaghat and the Station House Officer (SHO) reached the spot along with other personnel. Upon inspection of the scene and the condition of the body, it was prima facie established as a case of murder. Based on the statement of the complainant, the case was formally registered.

A team from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Mandi, also visited the crime scene and collected crucial evidence to aid the investigation. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination at Medical College Nerchowk. After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for last rites.

Police have confirmed the arrest of the main accused, Vikas Patiyal, a resident of Post Office Gopalpur, Tehsil Sarkaghat, District Mandi. Officials stated that further legal action is underway, and the accused will be produced before the competent court on April 14, 2026.

The police have assured that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated. Authorities are working to establish the exact motive behind the crime and to gather all relevant evidence to ensure a strong prosecution.

In an official statement, the Superintendent of Police, Mandi, reiterated the department’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the district. He emphasized a strict “zero tolerance” policy towards crime and assured the public that ensuring the safety and security of citizens remains the top priority of the police.

The shocking incident has raised concerns among local residents, and further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
